I enrolled in East Carolina University, Greenville, North Carolina (then a college) in 1957, graduating in 1961, after completing course work in the summer of 1960. I received North Carolina CPA certificate number 2135 in August of 1962, the first person in my graduating class to become certified.

Gene is an August 1960 graduate ofEast Carolina University in Greenville, NC, with a BA degree in accounting. He has spoken at tax and computer conferences of the American Institute of CPAs, the North Carolina Association of CPAs, the Virginia Society of CPAs, East Carolina University, the University of Illinois, and other organizations. He has been published and has often been interviewed and quoted by a number of professional periodicals. He has been in professional practice in Greenville, NC, since 1960. Gene is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, the North Carolina Association of CPAs, and the Coastal Plains Chapter of the NCACPA. He served as chairman of the AICPA Tax Division's Task Force on Automation in the Tax Practice of the 1990's and as chairman of the AICPA Tax Division's Tax Technology Committee from 1995-1998. He is a member of the NCACPA Long Range Planning Committee. In the past he has served the NCACPA on the Board of Directors, the Educators Committee, and the MAS Committee, and has served as chair of the Area Societies and Cooperation with Bankers committees. He is a past president of the Coastal Plains Chapter of the NCACPA.
Gene has been active in Greenville civic affairs, having served as President of the Greenville Jaycees (1968-69) and as a member of the Greenville Utilities Commission (1973-81). In 1966 he was recognized by the North Carolina Jaycees as one of the Three Outstanding Young Men in North Carolina.
Gene is, also, active in his church which he has served for many years in various leadership capacities. He is currently serving on the Communications Team and is the Team Leader of the sub-group of Information Technology.
