Abundance - The Future Is Better Than You Think

This just released book by Perter H. Diamandis and Steven Kotler, addresses future human needs by category - water, food, energy, health care and education.  Learn about Dean Kamen's Slingshot technology that can transform polluted water, salt water, or even raw sewage into high-quality drinking water for less than one cent per liter.  Also the Qualcomm Tricorder X PRIZE which promises a low-cost, handheld medical device that allows anyone to diagnose themselves better than a board ceretfied-doctor.  Lots of charts and graphs.

A websearch on Dean Kamen's Singshot water purification device, referenced in the book, indicates that not much has happened since 2010 .... and that was reporting on things prior to 2010.

Trials are reported as successful. So perhaps the delay is building the devices at affordable prices?

Conversely, the Qualcomm Tricorder has received some recent activity:

The 'Reference Section' at end of book contains a plethora of charts and information. For instance a 2008 chart indicates that 1.2 billion people still practice open defecation. However the comment was made in the context of 'rapid improvement.'

This report is consistent with the book's notion that energy will become abundant:
